History of the house

Carrholme Cottage is a Grade 2 listed cottage, originally built in the 1600s. It was was once a bolt hole for Charles I, who was King of England from 1625 to 1649. Charles I was a controversial figure, and he was eventually executed during the English Civil War. The coat of arms above the dining room door is a reminder of the cottage's royal connection.

Although it was previously a three-bedroom cottage with a barn attached, work began in the 1990s to convert the barn into additional living space. More recently, the downstairs bedroom was added.

The cottage has been used as a family home for many years and was recently owned by 'Butch Dingle' from the TV series Emmerdale.
